Overview of Keys

Florida Coast Tourist Information and Travel Guide

The Florida Keys are a series of islands located south and southwest of the Florida peninsula.

The most northerly island in the archipelago is situated 15 miles south of Miami. The remaining islands form an arch that stretches out to the south south-west separating the Atlantic Ocean from the Gulf of Mexico.

Most of the islands in the archipelago are connected by the Overseas Highway (US Highway #1) and a network of bridges.

The Florida Keys are home to a wide variety of birds and animal species, some of which are found nowhere else in the world.

Visitors to Florida can rent a car at the Miami Airport and enjoy a drive through the islands to Key West at the south end of the archipelago.
