Cape Canaveral

Florida Coast Tourist Information and Travel Guide

Cape Canaveral is located near the center of Florida's Atlantic Coast.  It is home to the Kennedy Space Center, a popular tourist attraction that attracts some 1.5 million visitors annually.

The Kennedy Space Center has been America's primary launch center for human spaceflight since 1968. The Apollo, Skylab and Space Shuttle missions were all carried out from this space center.  Earlier flights, however, were launched from the adjacent Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.

The Visitor Complex at the Kennedy Space Center displays historic spacecraft and related memorabilia.  It features two IMAX theatres that show amazing films regarding space flight.

Other attractions at the Kennedy Space Center include:

  • Apollo/Saturn V Center
  • Rocket Garden (see photo)
  • Shuttle Launch Experience (simulated shuttle launch)
  • Space Shuttle Atlantis
  • US Astronaut Hall of Fame

Cape Kennedy on Florida's Atlantic Coast

Cape Canaveral is sometimes referred to as the Space Coast and erroneously as Cape Kennedy.

Port Canaveral, one of four massive cruise terminals on the Florida Coast, is situated on the cape.  Orlando Florida is located just 88 km (55 miles) west of the cape.

If you are planning to visit the Kennedy Space Center, try to coordinate your visit with a scheduled rocket launch.  There is nothing quite like it!
